Former Tigers basketball star Wendell Green Jr. had a mournful message for Auburn football fans on October 15 as a viral clip of Bo Nix beautifully explaining his perspective after Oregon’s 36-33 loss to Washington in Week 7: you should’ve loved him while he was in Auburn.

Nix gave an impassioned speech to the media scrum in which he downplayed the results of the game and gave words of encouragement not to give up despite a setback.

“Sometimes you put it all out there and it’s not enough, and it’s frustrating,” Nix said on October 14 (h/t 247Sports). “That’s part of life. Sometimes in life, you’re gonna get knocked down. You may get fired from a job. You may lose a sale. But I hope that doesn’t stop you from going out there and trying to sell something else. So, this is a great learning lesson for us. There’s a lot more in life than football games. I know that for sure. Tomorrow the sun will come up. God is still good. I’m just here to be an influence to other people — be a light around me. If I’ve got to use football to do that, then I’m gonna do the best I can at it.

“You go out there and do your best to win the game. Sometimes you lose and that’s part of it. I’m proud to be an Oregon Duck. I’m proud to be here. I’m proud to play with this locker room. I’m proud to play for these coaches. It means a lot to me. I’m not going to quit on them and I know they’re not going to quit on me. So, we have a lot to play for as the season goes on. I think it’s a challenge that I’m built for and I think I was just put into this position for that. And that’s what I’m gonna do.”

Auburn football fans will forever regret Bo Nix treatment

Payton Thorne’s struggles, along with the futility under center during the 2022 season with either TJ Finley or Robby Ashford under center, are a great illustration of how good the Tigers had it with Nix.

Unfortunately, for some reason, what he did for the program was not enough for a large swath of fans who were toxic enough to convince a man who was born to wear orange and blue to hit the transfer portal.

You reap what you sow, Tiger fans.
