Opelika wide receiver/running back Ja’quez Johnson captivated Auburn football Twitter after Auburn Daily’s Zac Blackerby was able to catch on camera what was floated as the “greatest catch ever” by Mike Farrell of Mike Farrell Sports.

“Remember the name Ja’quez Johnson,” Blackerby prefaced before saying, “This Opelika 9th Grader just made one of the most incredible catches I’ve ever seen.” Other members of Auburn Twitter were equally captivated.

“I’ve rewatched this 10 times, wow,” said one amazed Tiger fan.

“Wish I could as it in slo mo,” prefaced Auburn Daily’s Steve Simpson before acknowledging, “Amazing catch.”

“That’s that Bulldog Stadium magic at work right there,” said The First Baptist Chuch of Opelika’s Owen Meadows.

Several tweeters wondered why Johnson isn’t playing for the varsity team on Thursday and Friday nights.

“Why is he playing on the ninth grade team?” one tweeter outright asked. “Why is he not on varsity?” asked another.

Another fan had a great suggestion…

Fan asks Auburn football QB recruit Walker White to recruit Ja’quez Johnson

One tweeter had the great idea for enthusiastic recruiter and future Auburn football QB Walker White to focus his recruiting attention on the ascending ninth-grade star; who’d arrive on the Plains by Walker’s senior season barring a declassification.

“(At Walker White) you know what to do,” said the heedy fan.

With the Auburn family being exposed to greatness by an Auburn reporter on the ground, Johnson now has a built-in fanbase who already appreciated a hometown hero narrative. Don’t be surprised when an offer comes his way from the Plains and countless other Power Five programs making plays like that.
