The Auburn football program took more than one loss over the weekend, unfortunately. The Auburn Tigers got absolutely run over by the LSU Tigers on Saturday in Baton Rouge in possibly the most discouraging loss of the season.

Everyone knew that this year was a rebuilding year for the Tigers in year one under head coach Hugh Freeze, but the talent gap was made more clear than ever this past weekend. Once again, Tiger fans are reminded that you have to recruit well to play well, and it will likely be another few years before Auburn football is back at the level everyone wants.

Freeze and the coaching staff got several major recruiting wins over the summer, but took an L recently when it was announced that 4-star cornerback Jayden Lewis would be reopening his recruitment and decommitting from the Tigers.

Lewis committed to Auburn football back in February, and was the first 2024 commit for Freeze and the Tigers. Ranked as the #28 cornerback in the recruiting class of 2024 and the #20 recruit out of the state of Alabama, Lewis is the second recruit to decommit from the Tigers after Jalewis Solomon flipped to South Carolina last week.

Despite the recent losses of two recruits, the Tigers still have 16 commits, and their 2024 class is still ranked in the top 20. The class is headlined by 5-star wide receiver Perry Thompson, from Foley, AL, who flipped from Alabama over the summer and 4-star ATH Demarcus Riddick who flipped from Georgia.

Freeze knows that the classes of 2024 and 2025 are vital to the progress of Auburn football, and is making recruitment a priority in his first few years as the Tigers’ head coach.
