Auburn legend ‘knows a thing or two’ about Caleb Williams’ issues
Auburn football legend Cam Newton “knows a thing or two” about USC quarterback Caleb Williams’s issues — mainly the unproven but perhaps not unfounded accusation that he will only agree to play for a handful of NFL franchises or else threaten to return to the Trojans in 2024 — according to All Trojans’ Matt Solorio.
“Cam Newton knows a thing or two about the pathway that star USC quarterback Caleb Williams will inevitably be heading down,” Solorio prefaced before saying, “The former first-team All-Pro Carolina Panthers gunslinger implored the reigning Heisman Trophy winner to ‘walk as light as possible’ regarding (that accusation).”
Newton also had a message for Williams: be you, but that “you” has to be someone that wins NFL games under center for it to matter.
“For me, I feel like, bro, do you,” Newton prefaced before saying, “Set the tone early. But while you’re setting that tone, Mr. Caleb, I must admonish you to know this. You gotta perform. If you don’t perform, this ain’t USC. The speed is different, the physicality is different, the preparation is different. Don’t nobody care that you won a Heisman.”
Auburn football legend Cam Newton reached heights in college Caleb Williams never will
Assuming Williams’ agency does the necessary legwork to get the USC star to his preferred destination during the next NFL draft, the likelihood that 2023 is his final season in a Trojans uniform is sky-high.
The reigning Heisman is the caliber of QB that has franchises feeling okay with failing all season for the chance to draft him, and USC isn’t likely to win a championship this season — having been blown out by Notre Dame in Week 7 and with Utah, Washington, and Oregon still left on the schedule.
Newton, of course, put the cherry on top of his own Heisman season with a BCS National Championship.
Williams likely knows that distinction makes Newton worth listening to.
