Current NFL wide receiver and former Auburn football star Darrius Slayton finds himself in a terrible situation with the very bad New York Football Giants. Big Blue is not competitive, and worse yet, Slayton is not getting featured in the offense like he used to.

The former Tigers wide receiver dominated at the college level and could do so again if playing in the right situation; simply needing to be in a city where his quarterback can get him the ball. Slayton was once a key contributor in the Big Apple, but now the Giants are back to their losing ways, and No. 86 is an afterthought.

While Slayton will still have one more year after his contract after this season, it would be in his best interest to move on and seek a new home. An explicit public trade demand is not befitting of an Auburn man, but a quiet request from his agency should be considered before he is no longer seen as an NFL receiver by the rest of the league.

Former Auburn football star Darius Slayton has WR1 potential in the right situation

Slayton has the potential to be a true No. 1 or No. 2 option on a great team, but right now, he is losing great years in his prime for a team that does not know how to put together a good enough roster to compete despite being one of the marquee brands in the NFL.

While the Giants work out their multitude of issues, Slayton needs to make his way to where he can just focus on winning. Slayton deserves so much more than what he has now. Whether or not Brian Daboll makes it to a third season or Daniel Jones sees the end of his contract, Slayton needs to ditch a sinking ship.

Once a recruiter for New York, Slayton needs to quietly depart from the Empire State.
