According to Hook’em Headlines’ Andrew Miller, Texas “appears to be the favorite” for IMG Academy defensive lineman TJ Lindsey if the 2024 class’s No. 35 DL flips from the Auburn football program.

“A couple of weeks ago, we mentioned how Davis and the Longhorns had picked back up communication on the recruiting trail with Lindsey,” Miller prefaced before saying, “Texas is not the only school back in communication with Lindsey while looking to flip his commitment from Auburn heading into signing day. Miami is also still in communication with Lindsey this fall. The Horns and Canes are both working to get Lindsey to campus for visits before signing day in the next month or so.

“But suppose Lindsey decides to back off his commitment to Auburn before signing day. In that case, Texas appears to be the favorite to get him in their class on Dec. 20. Lindsey has always wanted to play in the SEC, which makes Auburn and Texas the two most likely destinations for his commitment.”

Auburn football recruiting exodus wouldn’t be from losing

If the Tigers finish with a .500 record — because we all know hell would freeze over if New Mexico State rode onto the Plains and pulled off what would be one of the season’s biggest upsets — the recruits wouldn’t blink. This season had expectations tempered when Hugh Freeze promised a rough stretch to open SEC play, and what do you know, just that took place with a four-game losing streak to Texas A&M, Georgia at home, LSU, and Ole Miss at home.

No, it’s not the expected losses that’d turn anyone away. What it would be is the JABA-esque infighting that is rumored to be taking place behind the scenes; where internal disagreements about who the head coach should be are likely taking a toll on the on-field product.

AU needs to clean up its act if this is the case. Bryan Harsin’s tenure was consumed by a lack of alignment, but it’s going to be hard to blame the Boise native for everything wrong that took place during his tenure if another head coach, this time, someone who works tirelessly on the recruiting trail, crashes and burns.
