Auburn football fans react to flip of 4-star EDGE Jamonta Waller
It’s been a fantastic weekend for the Auburn football program. The Tigers took Fayetteville by storm and ran the Arkansas Razorbacks out of their own house with a 48-10 victory. The defense feasted on the Hogs and the offense had arguably its strongest showing yet.
But the good news didn’t stop with the win that earned the Tigers bowl eligibility in the first year of the Hugh Freeze era. Shortly after the game—and while Florida is currently playing LSU—4-star edge Jamonta Waller announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he would be switching his commitment from the Florida Gators to the Auburn football program.
Waller committed to the Gators in June after officially visiting Auburn, Florida, and Penn State, but Freeze and his staff never backed off the 4-star prospect. Waller also made his way to the Plains for Auburn home games twice this season.
With a big need in the pass-rushing department, Waller is a massive get for this coaching staff, especially after several players have backed off their commitments recently. Fans were excited, and shared their reactions to the flip on X:
According to 247 Sports, Waller has recorded 56 stops with 19 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and 21 quarterback hurries in addition to two forced fumbles and blocked a punt in his first 10 games as a senior.
Waller is ranked as the #48 overall prospect and the #5 edge in the recruiting class of 2024. He is the #1 recruit out of the state of Mississippi. He becomes the 18th commit in the Tigers’ class of 2024 and is the second most highly-ranked commit after 5-star wide receiver Perry Thompson.
