Former Auburn basketball star Isaac Okoro could soon have that “star” designation fit his NBA career.

Throughout his first few seasons, Okoro has been a solid role player for the Cleveland Cavaliers; with his offense lagging behind his defensive contributions but his overall effort being present to anyone watching.

Cleveland has been in a slump because of injuries thus far during the 2023-24 season, and Okoro has also missed some time because of injuries. Cleveland needs a new star on the wing to emerge to put the team over the top — with an uncertain future for Donovan Mitchell — and Okoro could be that player.

Former Auburn basketball star Isaac Okoro must follow in the footsteps of greats

While Okoro has been known to be an excellent defender, we’ve yet to see him develop more as an offensive option for his team. In the past, players like Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler came in as defensive specialists and eventually became the best players on their teams.

The chance is there for Okoro to get to that level if the Cavs just put the focus on him and make the ex-Tiger a key part of that young and talented team.

Okoro can become a key contributor on both the offensive and defensive ends for the Cavs and make them a serious threat in the NBA for years down the road. During his time at Auburn, Okoro shined as a key player on that team and won multiple awards as a freshman. The young player has an incredible work ethic that can bring him to the highest level in the NBA.

It is all up to the Cavs to give him that room to grow so he can take that next step and be the next Auburn great to become a superstar.

The #Fambly knows what Okoro can be, even if the COVID-19 pandemic cut short his only season on the Plains, and it is time for the rest of the world to see it as well.
