Following the season-ending injury to Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns find themselves in a situation where they need someone to step in and take this playoff contender to the promised land. Enter Auburn football legend Cam Newton, who SBNation’s James Dator believes could be a “potential hero” for Cleveland down the stretch of the 2023 season following a 6-3 start.

“At moments like this there’s a decision to make: Stay scared and play for next season, or try to find a hero — and when things are this bleak you don’t just need any hero, you need Superman,” Dator prefaced before saying, “This is a lot more than seeing a round hole and trying to jam a random block into it, whether it fits or not. Cam Newton really could be the answer the Browns need to not just salvage their season, but save it in a way previously thought impossible.”

Newton should’ve been the answer for the Minnesota Vikings via trade following Kirk Cousins’ season-ending injury. The Browns don’t need to make that same mistake.

Auburn football legend can be silver lining to the Browns losing Deshaun Watson for the year to injury

Watson’s injury was certainly a big blow for the Browns, but this could be a chance for Newton to come and show the world he is still an elite QB who can lead a team to the Super Bowl. He has been passed on for way too long and now is the right time for Superman to take to the skies to save a franchise that can use some positive developments in the Watson era.

The Browns are the perfect fit for the former Heisman at this moment in time. There’s no reason not to take a gamble on finishing what they started and handing Newton a large deal while stuck in a pinch.
