Auburn could be in position to flip top 2025 wideout from Alabama
Auburn football “could be in position to flip” Saraland wideout, and the 2025 recruiting class’s No. 1 overall receiver, Ryan Williams, from Alabama soon according to Auburn Daily’s Lance Dawe — who projected the potential future top NFL draft pick to be a demon in AU’s offense under Hugh Freeze in the event of a monumental flip.
“Williams is currently committed to Alabama, but Auburn is pushing Williams and could be in position to flip him away from the Tide as well within the next few weeks,” Dawe prefaced before saying, “He’s the No. 1 receiver in the nation and provides insane speed and elusiveness. This is a surefire first-round receiver that would be a demon in Freeze’s offense.”
Freeze already flipped Perry Thompson from Alabama back on July 29. After years of the Crimson Tide being far more well-equipped in their receiving corps than the Tigers (by a good bit), AU may be close to flipping that narrative altogether.
Auburn football flip target ‘nowhere near his ceiling’
Touchdown Alabama’s Justin Smith believes Williams is “nowhere near his ceiling” just yet, going as far as to say that he’s a potential “generational” receiver.
“Some feel Williams has the potential to be a generational talent at wide receiver,” Smith prefaced before saying, “The Saraland High School product can do it all at wide receiver, and he is nowhere near his ceiling. The Mobile area product holds a PR of 10.47 in the 100-meter dash, and his speed translates over to the gridiron. He can create separation from the moment he gets out of his release and is effective at getting more room to work at the top of routes. He is also explosive in space and can make moves in tight quarters.”
Williams choosing AU would undoubtedly inspire reflection within the Alabama football program. That and an Iron Bowl upset on November 25 at Jordan-Hare Stadium would also inspire a legitimate dialogue about whether or not the Crimson Tide are kings of recruiting, or for that matter anything, in this state any longer.
