Auburn football fans ripped former Alabama wideout Marquis Maze for his misinformed defense of Harvey Updyke — who infamously poisoned the trees at Toomer’s Corner, citing he had “too much Bama in him” as his reasoning — on November 20; in a message that was ultimately just a “Bama by 30” tweet wrapped with the most embarrassing bow ahead of the 2023 Iron Bowl.

“Y’all talk about Harvey Updyke killing trees but don’t say s*** about these companies that kill trees daily is wild, y’all m**********s hunt deer but y’all crying bout some damn trees is funny to me — Rip Harvey and Roll Tide,” Maze prefaced before saying, “Bama by 30 Saturday. F*** Auburn.”

“You can’t make up the irony in a former Bama player not knowing the difference between abiding by the law and committing a federal crime,” said one poster in a state of shock.

“Where’s it illegal to hunt or for people to have their own land cleared by logging companies? Good thing y’all got sports ’cause that education is f****** awful,” scolded another.

“Former Auburn players are on our staff working to make it better,” pointed out another before saying, “Former Bama players tweeting at an entire fan base like a 14-year-old.”

“Great point,” facetiously prefaced another before saying, “These companies that kill trees also almost poison an entire town’s water supply when they do it. Completely the same.”

Harvey Updyke’s attack that went far beyond the Alabama-Auburn football rivalry resulted in jail time

Defending Updyke’s criminal act is uncouth in every conceivable way. The crazed Crimson Tide fan’s actions resulted in several legal ramifications that included three years of jail time and a ban from sporting events.

“The Alabama fan who poisoned the iconic Toomer’s Corner oak trees at rival Auburn has been sentenced to three years in prison,” reported CBS News back on March 25, 2013. “Harvey Updyke Jr. pleaded guilty on Friday to criminal damage of an agricultural facility. The sentence requires him to serve at least six months in jail and spend five years on supervised probation for the Class C felony. He has been credited with 104 days already served. Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob A. Walker III also fined the former Texas state trooper $1,000. The probation terms include a 7 p.m. curfew and prohibit Updyke from going onto Auburn’s campus or attending a college sporting event.”

That’s what Maze woke up and chose to defend for some reason.
