Anytime you move on from a head coach before the end of his second season, you know that the hire was a disaster. Auburn isn’t a football program with a lot of patience, but a 21-game tenure is still amazingly brief.

Harsin did a lot of winning at his alma mater, Boise State, amassing a 69-19 record from 2014-2020, but the success did not translate to the SEC at all.

Bo Nix was far from infallible as a Tiger, but when Auburn royalty like him departs the program and describes his time under the head coach as “miserable” there’s something very wrong. 19 other players and multiple assistant coaches also left Auburn along with Nix after the 2021 season, Harsin’s first year.

His 9-12 overall record was disappointing, but not the only reason that he was dismissed midway through the 2022 season. Now, Hugh Freeze is attempting to clean up the mess that Harsin left.
