For as bad as Bryan Harsin was at Auburn, he was a rousing success compared to Earl Brown. Brown played football and basketball during his collegiate years at Notre Dame, then coached at Dartmouth, the US Merchant Marine Academy, and Canisius College before landing at Auburn.

It was clear right away that he wasn’t a fit down south with a 1-8-1 record in 1948, his first season. Brown improved to 2-4-3 in 1949, but his final year was a true disaster. In 1950, the Auburn Tigers went 0-10, were outscored 255-31, and were shut out seven times.

Brown was replaced by Ralph Jordan in 1951, probably the best coaching hire in Auburn history.
