According to Greg Swaim of Greg Swaim Sports, Clemson and Florida State could soon announce their departures from the ACC to join either the SEC or the Big Ten; with North Carolina, Virginia, and Miami possibly joining them, and the Big 12 having their eyes on Louisville, NC State, Virginia Tech, and Pitt.

“BREAKING: There will be teams announcing exits from the ACC, possibly before the end of 2023,” Swaim prefaced before saying, “Most notably FSU and Clemson, but UNC, UVA, The U, and others are coveted by the Big Ten and/or the SEC, while the Big 12 (is) looking at (Louisville), NC State, VT, and Pitt, among others.”

Addressing a fan’s question about Miami to the Big 12, Swaim shared that his Hurricanes source expects an offer from either the SEC or the Big Ten.

“(Miami to the Big 12 is) certainly a possibility, but my Miami source feels certain they’ll get either an offer from the B1G or SEC,” Swaim prefaced before saying, “I’m not so sure.”

Clemson and Florida State more likely to join the SEC over Big Ten

The Big Ten doesn’t care about keeping anything regional, adding USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington to a conference that has schools like Rutgers and Maryland situated along the east coast.

The SEC, on the other hand, has (somewhat) respected the regional nation of collegiate athletic conferences, adding Texas and Oklahoma only after already having some of their regional rivals (Texas A&M, Arkansas) already in tow.

With that in mind, Clemson feels likely to join its fellow Palmetto State rival, South Carolina, and Florida State feels likely to join its longtime rivalry week counterpart, Florida, in the “It Just Means More” conference.

Keeping those rivalries alive in a sport constantly trying to evolve and transform is why “It Just Means More” in the southeast.
