Auburn football flipping Saraland’s Ryan Williams from Alabama in the coming weeks was deemed unlikely by The Auburn Observer’s Chris Mendoza.

“The next big name Freeze likely wants to see flip is Alabama receiver commit Ryan Williams, who will likely announce his reclassification from 2025 to 2024,” Mendoza prefaced before saying, “Williams is expected to announce his reclassification sometime Monday and will start making official visits.

“A flip from Williams is unlikely, but Auburn has not backed down from its pursuit of the Saraland speedster. A commitment from Williams would solidify this class of receivers as one of the greatest in program history.”

No Ryan Williams flip would sting but Auburn football losing Perry Thompson back to Alabama would be a nightmare

If Williams decides to stick with Alabama, fine. Hugh Freeze will have tried, but Tommy Rees and Holmon Wiggins will have won the recruiting battle in a hard-fought and highly-contested flip/no-flip staredown.

But if Perry Thompson flips back to Alabama? Sound the alarms. That’d be a five-alarm five of a news nuke.

Luckily, the only reason anyone thinks that could happen is due to the social media moves he’s making — and we’re not talking actual posts, but subtle changes to his X profile. Oh, and an Instagram story with an ambiguous caption.

Thompson has been posting about how after the Cam Coleman flip, there’s still one more flip waiting for the Plains; probably referring to Williams. That doesn’t sound like someone with a change of heart.

Freeze bringing more receiver talent to AU than the program has ever seen isn’t sitting right with some, especially those in Tuscaloosa County. But once Coleman and Thompson, and just maybe Williams, long as a shot as it is, arrive in East Central Alabama, the Tigers’ title hopes will be higher than they’ve been in a decade.
