Auburn Daily’s Zac Blackerby derives Marcus Harris vibes off of Florida transfer Chris McClellan; an Auburn football transfer portal target for Ron Roberts’ defense who’s already been offered by the Tigers.
“McClellan picked up an offer from the Tigers very quickly after entering the portal,” Blackerby prefaced before saying, “McClellan has some solid tools but hasn’t put it all together so far in his college career. The former Gator gives off some Marcus Harris vibes and with Harris potentially leaving for the NFL, it’s a great fit.”
Harris, a transfer himself in 2021 from Kansas who spent his first two seasons in Lawrence and used his extra COVID-19 season this past year, was a valuable part of both the Bryan Harsin era and the first year of Freeze’s tenure. The Montgomery native played for three different defensive coordinators on the Plains: Roberts, Jeff Schmedding, and Derek Mason.
Auburn football transfer portal target had ‘blind faith’ in Billy Napier
The way All Gators’ Brandon Carroll described McClellan upon the news of his transfer does sound like Harris: loyal to a fault to his head coach, whether it was the man who recruited him or the one who took over after that man was fired.
“His blind faith in the program provided a valuable foundation at a position of need for Billy Napier and Co. upon their arrival, inheriting an uber-talented defensive line prospect who ranked as the No. 16 DL and No. 113 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class,” Carroll wrote of McClellan.
“Flashing considerable promise as a disruptive piece in the trenches toward the end of his true freshman season in 2022, McClellan was considered to be a key building block in the Gators’ compilation of talent on the interior defensive line.”
McClellan would fill one of AU’s biggest transfer portal needs and is being compared to Harris. Get this man to the Plains ASAP, Brother Hugh.
