It’s been an interesting couple of days for Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze, especially as it pertains to the transfer portal. As of Sunday, he’s lost two highly-rated quarterbacks to other squads in the wake of the Tigers’ signing of Jackson Arnold.
As such, fans have begun to worry about losing other key players, and Auburn OT Dillon Wade noticed. In a recent tweet, Wade stated “I hate to break y’all’s hearts…” seemingly insinuating he’d soon join Walker White and Hank Brown in the portal.
Fans immediately flocked to Wade’s Twitter, begging the OT to come back to Auburn instead of leaving, though many seemed resigned to the fact he’d be leaving. One fan stated “You deserve to be in the NFL. Some talents are too bright to stay. I thank you for visit us and making this your home. Please come back and rush the field with us.”
Another pleaded with the OT, pleading, “No please don’t say it DWade! Auburn needs you desperately!! WDE!”
Wade responded to these concerns, along with his original tweet, with a post just a day later: “That’s why I’m not going to [“break y’all’s hearts”]… #WarEagle”
Auburn fans seem so desperate to keep their transfers that no one has anything negative to say about Wade’s trolling, with most expressing relief that the OT will stick around on the Plains next year.
Coach Freeze’s portal work has been a rollercoaster for Auburn fans. At the very least, one player seems to be having a fun time messing with the Auburn faithful in the wake of these recent losses.
