It would have been easy for Deuce Knight to talk about his record-breaking performance following Auburn's 62-17 rout of Mercer. It would have made sense for him to discuss how he broke an Auburn freshman record with four rushing touchdowns, all coming in the first half.

It would have been fair for him to question whether or not he should be on the field next week when Auburn hosts arch-rival Alabama in the Iron Bowl.

That's not who Knight is, though. Just look at the quotes concerning his 75-yard touchdown run that came on the first play of the game.

"It was crazy," Knight said. "Like I said, just great blocking downfield, great blocking upfront. I had the easy part, just all you've got to do is run when it's blocked up."

And his answers when asked about the two guys – Jackson Arnold and Ashton Daniels – who have been ahead of him on the depth chart all season.

"Those guys, any time I have questions, you can call any of those guys any time," Knight said. "They're going to be back there helping you, coaching (you) up. On the sideline, Jackson called out the coverage they were going to play the first snap. Probably one of the smartest guys I know. Those guys are great, great guys to be in that room with. They're always going to help give their knowledge and feedback."

Props to Arnold, who has seen his status go from bona fide starter to unlikely to see any playing time in the regular-season closer against the Crimson Tide. He could have dropped his head, looked for his next move and refused to help the true freshman. Instead, he's helping Knight learn the game at this level.

"I told my whole family I believe Jackson’s probably top-10 smartest people I ever met," Knight said.

And on his first touchdown pass in college, Knight obviously gave credit to his receiver, Cam Coleman.

"That's just all eight right there, man," he said. "We practice that throw a million times, though, in the summer and winter, when I got here in the spring. He’s probably one of the best guys I've ever played with."

The compliments couldn't stop coming out of Knight's mouth, whether it be for Malcolm Simmons, Daniels, or interim head coach DJ Durkin. The maturity level has been evident since Knight arrived on campus, and on Saturday, he got to show what he's capable of when given an opportunity.

And, when asked which touchdown was his favorite, the team player came up with another right answer.

"I don’t really know," Knight said. "It was just fun. Good being out there."
