AL.com columnist wants Deion to replace Freeze, predicts Kiffin to replace Napier at Florida
AL.com's Joseph Goodman believes Deion Sanders is a better fit for Auburn football than Hugh Freeze is, and admitted he daydreams about the former bringing "Prime Time" to the Plains sometime soon.
"Like it or not, Auburn is married to Freeze until his recruits begin defecting," Goodman wrote. "A lot of people said Freeze was a good fit for Auburn, but I’ll keep dreaming about Coach Prime."
"Prime Time" equals ratings. "Prime Time" equals clicks. Goodman and every non-Boulder-based sports journalist wants to see Coach Prime bring his act to their town. But Tiger fans would likely have a much different take on the matter.
Ultimately, Goodman sees Auburn sticking with Freeze. Goodman compared AU's situation with Freeze to Oklahoma's with Brent Venables; concluding that the latter scenario is much more likely to go up in smoke.
"The Sooners are struggling because former coach Lincoln Riley saw the writing on the wall and left for Southern Cal. Riley didn’t want anything to do with the SEC. Current OU coach Brent Venables is on the hot seat and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets fired before the end of the season," Goodman wrote.
"Auburn’s situation is different. I still think Freeze can be a good coach. He’s recruiting some of the best offensive players in the country and Auburn’s young defense looked better against Vanderbilt than Alabama."
Lane Kiffin predicted to replace Billy Napier at Florida
Goodman also predicted Lane Kiffin replacing Billy Napier at Florida this offseason. Napier has one of the hottest seats in college football of any head coach.
"Expect Florida to hire Lane Kiffin away from Ole Miss," Goodman wrote.
That's as forward as he could've been with that prediction. The worst-kept secret in college football is Kiffin taking a bigger payday and pursuing a greater opportunity to win a College Football Playoff with a proven winner in Gainesville.
