When it comes to Auburn football, one thing you can always rely on is that there will be at least one powerhouse running back ready to break records on the roster. The Tigers have put two running backs in the NFL in recent years, with Tank Bigsby going to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023 and Jarquez Hunter going to the Los Angeles Rams last month.

With superstar Jarquez Hunter no longer in the running back room, it's time for another member of the position group to step up. RB Damari Alston is likely to be the starter this season after backing up Hunter for several seasons, but Alston isn't the only running back to keep an eye on this season.

According to AL.com, a running back from a town just an hour away from the Plains could have a breakout year in 2025. Heading into his third season with the Tigers, Jeremiah Cobb has already racked up 260 rushing yards and two touchdowns and could be headed for a breakout season as a junior.

“I see myself being a guy that is going to make plays this year and I’m going to do that the best way I can,” Cobb said after the Tigers' A-Day spring practice.

Cobb spent last season playing a big role on special teams as a returner, but the new, younger additions to the running back room can take over that role and allow for Cobb to pick up more carries. During spring practices, he has been taking most reps with the second team and has improved on his game from last season.

“Jeremiah Cobb has been putting in the work,” Alston said. “We are going to be running the table this year for our offense.”

The Tigers kick off their 2025 season on August 29 against Baylor.
