Auburn football adding a receiver through the transfer portal will reportedly have little effect on the Tigers' current personnel, with Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton Jr. and Wake Forest transfer Horatio Fields.

"The receiver room still isn’t complete yet -- the Smith brothers won’t arrive until the summer -- but Freeze isn’t ruling out the idea of adding another wide receiver out of the transfer portal," AL.com's Peter Rauterkus wrote.

"He said Auburn has two more sports remaining on offense should the staff choose to utilize the portal during the spring window.

"Even if Auburn does add another receiver, Freeze has been satisfied with how the current group has played during spring practice. Singleton and Fields have both earned praise, but Turner has arguably been the standout."

Hugh Freeze's ability to recruit the receiver and tight end positions has long been established. Freeze has coached Evan Engram, A.J. Brown, DK Metcalf, Dawson Knox, Van Jefferson, Laquon Treadwell, and Donte Moncrief over the course of his 33-year football coaching career.

He's done well adding the Freeze Four, Singleton, Fields, and 2025 signees Sam Turner, Erick Smith, and Duke Smith the past two years.

His work could be done and he would've aced recruiting the position. The problem has been, and hopefully still isn't, the QB position.

Jackson Arnold is skipping the Manning Passing Academy to gel with his teammates this summer. The Oklahoma transfer is working to learn the playbook and be prepared to lead the locker room into a pivotal 2025 season for Freeze's AU coaching tenure. Assuming his spring practice injury isn't too serious, he can be the long-awaited answer under center.

Meanwhile, Deuce Knight is waiting in the wings. He's more interested in the learning process than usurping Arnold. Thus far, indications from spring practice are he needs time before being starter-worthy in the SEC.
