Alex Golesh is making a massive impression on one of the best quarterbacks of the 2027 recruiting class.
Israel Abrams, a 4-star recruit out of Montini Catholic in Lombard, Ill., was in Auburn for Junior Day recently and, according to Rivals, enjoyed his trip to the Plains.
“Overall, it was a pretty good experience,” Abrams said. “Just getting out here and meeting all the coaching staff, spending time with the coaches, just going over ball and stuff. They were very welcoming. You could tell they wanted me here. They care for me. You can tell that ... It was a good time. One-hundred percent, I’ll definitely be coming back soon.”
Long thought of as a clinch for Iowa State, the uncommitted Abrams had a change of heart after Matt Campbell left the Cyclones for the head coaching job at Penn State. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Abrams is the No. 3 quarterback in the 2027 class, and No. 44 overall. He plans to take an official visit to Auburn sometime this summer.
Is Israel Abrams the future at QB for Auburn?
With Golesh and his staff coming in following this past season, the Tigers’ quarterback room had a complete turnover, as former 5-star recruit Deuce Knight, Ashton Daniels and Jackson Arnold all entered the transfer portal. Replacing them are Byrum Brown and Locklan Hewlett, who both followed Golesh from USF, along with Tristan T’ia (Oregon State) and 3-star signee Rhys Brush.
Brown comes to Auburn as a bona fide starter for the Tigers in 2026 after throwing for 3,158 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for 14 scores for the Bulls last season. Knight, who transferred to Ole Miss, was expected to compete for the starting job after a redshirt freshman season, but his departure left the future at the quarterback position following this upcoming season in question.
If Golesh were to land Abrams, it would be a significant win for the new head coach.
