Auburn defensive back Jack Luttrell has decided to leave the football program and opt to medically retire, per AL.com’s Peter Rauterkus.

“Auburn safety Jack Luttrell has medically retired, a source told AL.com, and is no longer listed on Auburn's online roster,” Rauterkus wrote. “Luttrell transferred to Auburn from Arizona this offseason, but was limited during spring practice with an injury. He missed the majority of the 2025 season with injury as well, dealing with a shoulder injury during his time at Arizona.”

A former 3-star Tennessee commit in the class of 2023 out of Colquitt County in Moultrie, Ga., Luttrell left the Volunteers after one season, committing to Arizona out of the transfer portal. In 12 games for the Wildcats in 2024, he recorded 39 total tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble and a pass breakup. Luttrell appeared in just three games last season for Arizona, recording an interception against Hawaii and making a total of three tackles.

He decided this offseason to join Golesh, who spent time at Tennessee as offensive coordinator but never coached Luttrell, at Auburn after the regime change, and was considered one of the top transfers the first-year coach brought in from the portal. He was likely to fill in the free safety position, behind Champ Anthony and AnQuon Fegans, both of whom are returning from last year’s squad that went 5-7.

The rest of the Auburn secondary looks set with Kaleb Harris and Eric Winters both returning at the safety position, while Rayshawn Pleasant returns for his second season on the Plains at cornerback, joining Blake Woodby and newcomers Andre Jordan Jr. and Shamar Arnoux.

Sylvester Smith returns as the likely starter at nickelback, while transfers Fred Gaskin and Kamari Todd back him up at the position.
