Amazingly enough, the last time Auburn won more than six games in a season, Bo Nix was a freshman, Gus Malzahn was still in charge on the Plains, and the word "quarantine" wasn’t exactly in our everyday vocabulary.
Yes, it’s been since 2019 since a “7” appeared next to Auburn’s record in the win column, which seems like forever when considering the history of the program. The Tigers have gone through two head coaches since then, with little success, and now turn their hopes toward Alex Golesh, who arrived this offseason from USF after leading the Bulls to a 23-15 record over three seasons.
So, what are the hopes for his first season? The people over at FanDuel think Golesh and the Tigers have a great shot at finally making it to the seven-win mark in 2026, as the over/under currently stands at 6.5 wins for Auburn.
Auburn's over/under stands at 6.5 for the 2026 season
While Golesh’s arrival was seen as a fresh start, the mass exodus of talent at the beginning seemed like a bad beginning for the 41-year-old head coach, with players such as Cam Coleman, Malcolm Simmons and Deuce Knight, among others, deciding to ply their trade elsewhere. But Golesh hit the transfer portal hard, especially on offense, where he brought in quarterback Byrum Brown, who played for him at USF the past three seasons, along with former Bulls’ wide receivers Keshaun Singleton, Kory Pettigrew, Jeremiah Koger, Chas Nimrod and Christian Neptune to help fill the void left by Coleman, Simmons and company.
The Tigers can get off to a hot start as well, with a neutral-site game against Baylor to begin the season in Atlanta (if you want to call it neutral site, considering how close it will be played to Auburn), followed by three straight home games against Southern Miss, Florida and Vanderbilt.
If Golesh is to hit that seven-game win mark in 2026, that stretch will be key to finally getting the Tigers past the losing seasons of the past five years.
