Auburn’s last week of spring practice has arrived, and on Tuesday, the Tigers took part in a scrimmage inside Jordan-Hare Stadium in preparation for Saturday’s A-Day.

Despite seeing some good things from both the offense and defense, Alex Golesh was concerned about one thing missing from practice: energy.

“I thought today, for the first half of this thing, I thought the energy level wasn’t where you wanted it to be,” the coach said. “And that’s what I told these guys after. You get opportunities inside Jordan-Hare, I don’t care who’s in there, the energy level has got to be at an elite level. And I thought it was just OK.”

Golesh felt a different vibe from his team than this past Thursday, when the Tigers practiced under the lights in the stadium, had the music blaring and, in an attempt to woo recruits, had the whole production going for the practice. The first-year head coach is looking for consistency from his squad, no matter whether it comes in practice or for a big SEC game during the fall.

Alex Golesh wasn't pleased with the energy on Tuesday

“I did not love our energy today, which was the challenge going into the day,” he said. “So in that respect, I thought we failed, but in a lot of ways I thought we got better today. When you’re in the spring and you’re not preparing for a game, the more you can coach demeanor, mindset, intent – at the end of the day, I told the guys when I brought them up, the mindset when you walk into the stadium, it’s one way in, one way out.”

The Tigers will wrap up spring practice on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the spring game.

“It’s going to be offense versus defense,” Golesh said. “We’ve got some guys beat up, and to split the team in two, I don’t know if that’ll do what we need to get done, which is honestly another practice in terms of just playing football.”
