Alex Golesh has been on a recruiting heater lately, so it’s no surprise that the first-year Auburn coach could flip an Alabama commit to the Tigers.
That’s exactly what Golesh and his staff did on Sunday with the commitment of cornerback Nash Johnson, who was previously committed to Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide. Out of McEachern HS in Powder Springs, Ga., Johnson was on the Plains this weekend visiting Golesh and Auburn.
“I love Auburn,” Johnson said. “It’s close to home, and I have great relationships with the staff. The whole staff at Auburn knows me. Every time I go there, the energy is good, and I feel like I fit. I really like the people and how close Auburn is.”
Auburn, Alex Golesh able to flip 3-star cornerback from rival Alabama
Rated a 3-star, Johnson chose the Tigers over Miami, Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia and Ole Miss, among many other suitors. Auburn cornerbacks coach DeMarcus Van Dyke played a vital role in getting him to commit to the Tigers.
“I trust him,” Johnson said. “He is a wonderful coach and a cool dude. He has a good personality. My relationship is great with DVD. We talk every day about everything.
“Coach (Alex) Golesh is a great coach, too. He’s a great man.”
Johnson is Auburn’s 10th commitment for the 2027 signing class, including 4-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook, 4-star offensive tackle Layton von Brandt and 4-star defensive lineman Donivan Moore. The Tigers’ class is currently ranked at No. 28 in the country, per 247Sports.
If the name McEachern sounds familiar, it’s because the school served as a recruiting pipeline for Bruce Pearl during his tenure as Auburn’s head basketball coach. Pearl signed three players – Dylan Cardwell, Sharife Cooper and Isaac Okoro – from the school in the Atlanta suburbs.
