Alex Golesh just made a radical move to start Auburn football’s camp—and David Pollack loves it

Auburn is locking in with fall camp this year. Alex Golesh has that meaning literally locking in.

Alex Golesh is moving the Auburn Tigers' roster to the Marriott hotel and resort at Robert Trent Jones in Opelika for 13 days to start camp, per On3's Justin Hokanson. Golesh claims there will be "no girlfriends, dogs, cats, whatever guys are into."

The Auburn Marriott Opelika Resort & Spa at Grand National is 15 minutes away from campus. Players will be locked away from all the distractions Golesh fears his players may have in the Loveliest Village. Former Georgia Bulldog and 2005 first-round NFL draft pick David Pollack loves it.

"War Eagle is literally locking in. Alex Golesh is nailing the culture dynamics for Auburn football," Pollack said on X.

The only thing not to love? There's a beautiful golf course by this Marriott. Luckily, as Golesh mentioned, he doesn't golf. Let's hope no players from last year's team picked up any habits from the old head coach. Distractions need to be kept at a minimum.

Mainly, because it hasn't been a drama-free offseason for Auburn. Ole Miss Rebels EDGE transfer Da'Shawn Womack was arrested for reckless endangerment. After Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby was dismissed from the program, Golesh put his foot down on gambling within the program. It's unclear if any players were partaking, but he probably said something for a reason.

Golesh is aiming to put all of that behind him and focus on football. That's never a bad idea.

Auburn must grow together amid adversity

There's already been trouble on the football front in fall camp. Guard Tai Buster suffered an injury that will keep him out for the first half of the 2026 season. Other injuries that aren't as severe include EDGE Chris Murray, who should be back within a week or two, plus DB Newboy Fegans, CB Shamar Arnoux, and DT Corey Wells, who are all day-to-day.

It has to be a next-man-up culture on the Plains. Golesh is gunning for players to be fully focused so that anyone can step in at a moment's notice. This is a critical two-week stretch to achieve that ahead of the 2026 season's kickoff next month.

We'll see if this turns out to be a gimmick that reminds us of the last two guys or an actually productive decision from the man in charge.

Alex Golesh needs to be more than words and ideas at Auburn

Golesh needs to deliver the proof-of-concept behind the ideas. There have been many head coaches who've come in and talked tough, only to fail to hold players accountable. Golesh doesn't seem like the kind of guy to sell snake oil or the Brooklyn Bridge. Trust will be lost if there aren't tangible improvements.

Trust me, the Alabama Crimson Tide's fanbase and others from around the SEC will be ready to make this a meme if it doesn't yield any positive developments. Not that their opinion should matter much, but they don't deserve ammunition.

Golesh has to make sure this getaway actually creates the desired outcome. If it does, Golesh will look more like a visionary than a supplier of more JABA from the past five years on the gridiron.
