It’s already a big weekend on the Plains as Big Cat Weekend takes place, with some of the most talented high school players in the country coming to Auburn to see what the Tigers and Alex Golesh can do for them.

While there could be some commits coming out of the weekend, Monday could be an even bigger day for Golesh and his staff as 5-star offensive tackle Layton von Brandt will announce his commitment decision between Auburn, Florida, Notre Dame and Penn State.

Ranked as one of the top five offensive tackles in the 2027 class, von Brandt is already a beast, measuring at 6-foot-6 and 290 pounds. Out of Appoquinimink HS in Middletown, Del., von Brandt is the No. 64 overall player in his signing class, and the top player in the First State.

While his announcement is scheduled for Monday, he is set to visit Auburn on June 12, with visits to Notre Dame (June 19), Penn State (June 2) and Florida (May 28) also scheduled. While the Fighting Irish already have three offensive tackle commits, and the Gators and Nittany Lions both have two, Auburn has yet to gain a commitment from one for the 2027 class.

Landing Layton von Brandt would be huge for Auburn's 2027 class

It’s no secret that Auburn has struggled to find capable offensive tackles, especially on the left side, during the past several seasons. The latest bust was Virginia Tech transfer Xavier Chaplin, who struggled with hearing problems and frequently committed false starts last season. Stanton Ramil was brought in this offseason as the latest attempt at a stopgap at the position, but gaining a commitment from someone as sought after as von Brandt would lay a foundation for Golesh and offensive line coach Tyler Hudanick to build on in recruiting in the future.

The Tigers currently have six commits for the 2027 class, led by 4-star running back Myson Johonson-Cook and defensive lineman Donivan Moore.
