George Lamons, one of the top tight ends in the 2027 signing class, announced his commitment to Auburn on Saturday.

“I love it here,” Lamons said. “I feel like I could do great in the offense. I feel like they would feed me the ball. I feel like my fit would be great.”

The Brooks County HS (Quitman, Ga.) product was visiting the Plains for Auburn’s annual A-Day Game, which took place in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Lamons is ranked the No. 11 tight end in the 2027 class, while coming in as the No. 251 overall recruit.

A big reason for Lamons’ commitment is his relationship with tight ends coach Larry Scott and assistant Jack Taylor.

“Those are my guys right there,” he said. “Great coaches. They want me to come be great. I love Coach Scott and Coach Taylor. Those are my guys right there. Coach Scott is intense and keeps it real with you.”

The 4-star Lamons was originally committed to Texas A&M and ultimately chose the Tigers over the Aggies, Florida and rival Alabama, signaling Alex Golesh’s first major win over Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide on the recruiting trail.

The commitment comes a day after Auburn lost another tight end, Tank Proctor, who decided to flip to Kentucky.

Auburn’s tight end room for the 2026 season is full of transfers, including Jonathan Echols, who came from USF along with Golesh, and Jake Johnson, a veteran who played two seasons at Texas A&M before spending the last two seasons at North Carolina. Last season with the Tar Heels, Johnson caught 16 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, while Echols came down with nine catches for 109 yards and three scores for the Bulls.

Lamons joins 4-star defensive lineman Donivan Moore as the only two current commits in Auburn’s 2027 class.
