FanSided's Quinn Everts believes Tennessee transfer WR Squirrel White would be a great fit for incoming Auburn football QB Deuce Knight in Hugh Freeze's offense should the Volunteer portal entry choose the Plains.
"Auburn's class of 2025 ranks in the top 10 no matter what site you look at, and the prized recruit of that class is quarterback Deuce Knight, one of the top quarterback prospects in the class," Everts wrote.
"Knight will need some dynamic receivers at Auburn, and White could provide that downfield explosiveness alongside Singleton. Last year's leading receiver at Auburn, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, was a fifth-year senior, so there's plenty of room for wide receivers at Auburn right now.
"Auburn's on-field product has been subpar the past few seasons. But wins on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal can turn things around in a hurry, and Auburn has quite a few of those this offseason."
The only thing blocking this potential reality is White never becoming Auburn's starter. With all the variables in college football during the NIL era, there's no guarantee he'll ever get the starting nod under Freeze.
There's no guarantee Freeze will even be the head coach by the time Knight is ready to start. Sure, he may have been guaranteed another year in 2025 regardless of his record in 2024, but with the Tigers being so portal-heavy, the expectations will be higher. 5-7 or even 6-6 may not cut it again.
Jackson Arnold is his current primary roadblock. Arnold has three years of eligibility left. Freeze being fired is a secondary concern compared to the incoming ex-Sooners 5-star.
Knight-to-White sounds nice, but there's a lot in the way of that happening. Freeze's portal luck may not cover this one.
