It's an Iron Bowl-style recruiting battle for 3-star wide receiver Cedrick Simmons, who will announce his commitment decision today and will choose between Alabama and Auburn football.
From Selma, Alabama, Simmons is ranked as the No. 24 recruit out of his home state and the No. 40 athlete in the recruiting class of 2027. According to his recruiting profile on 247 Sports, Simmons recorded 106 receptions for 2,192 yards and 20 touchdowns with an addition 96 rushing yards for Southside as a junior in 2025.
His recruiting journey with the Tigers began rather recently, with head coach Alex Golesh and his staff offering Simmons in late May. By early June, rival Alabama had also extended an offer. Simmons officially visited Alabama on June 12, and then officially visited Auburn on June 19 right before the beginning of the dead period.
Despite Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer's efforts, it seems like Simmons is leaning towards Auburn heading into the day of his decision. On Monday, June 22, Recruiting Insider Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction for the highly-touted wide receiver to end up in orange and blue.
Though Auburn football's recruiting class of 2027 dropped to 21 commits briefly yesterday after Kingston Miles flipped to Missouri, the Tigers quickly landed a commit from 3-star ATH Nasir Banks to even up the numbers. Should Simmons choose the Tigers, he would be only the second wide receiver to commit to Alex Golesh's first official recruiting class on the Plains. 3-star Brylan Oduor from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is the lone WR in the 2027 class currently, and he is ranked as the NO. 19 recruit out of his home state.
Meanwhile, Alabama's recruiting class of 2027 is currently sitting at No. 69 overall and dead last in the SEC with a total of 9 commits so far, headlined by 5-star quarterback Elijah Haven from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They have no wide receivers currently committed.
The Tigers' recruiting class of 2027 is holding strong in 247 Sports 2027 recruiting rankings Top 10, currently sitting at No. 9 overall and No. 5 in the SEC behind Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
