Auburn football flip shares mature thank-you message after committing to Tigers
Southwest DeKalb WR Sam Turner, a flip to Hugh Freeze's Auburn football program from Georgia Tech, the home city's school, is already well-trained from a PR perspective. Turner gave a mature answer when asked by On3 about why he flipped to the Tigers.
AU WR coach Marcus Davis got a shout-out, but Turner specifically shouted out the patience Freeze and Co. had in his pursuit.
“Just felt like home,” Turner told On3. “When Coach Davis came today and laid everything out for me it was hard to say no.
“They could’ve chose anybody in America. I prolonged this process since June. I respect they waited and kept recruiting me and it showed a lot.”
Having respect for the work coaching staffs put in shows maturity beyond Turner's years. As an Atlanta-area star, life is coming at him fast. Not fast enough to deny exploring what East Central Alabama can do for his career as opposed to sticking at home in the ACC.
"It Just Means More" means even more at this point given the potential for the SEC and Big Ten to team up to form an unmatched monopoly on the sport sometime down the line. Turner is coming at a good time.
Especially because 2025 could be the year.
2025 has to see Auburn football program moving in the right direction
2024 is a lost year. At 2-4 heading into the bye and 4-8 not even being seen as a fireable offense for Freeze, the eggs are in the 2025 basket.
It's a good place to be with the 2024 class maturing another year and a top-three class coming in.
If that basket isn't taken anywhere and the momentum still isn't in the right direction, there has to be conversations about replacing Freeze and finding a coach who can have AU more in the mix in the event of "Project Rudy."
