It was a tough weekend for the Auburn football team as they suffered another conference loss, falling 45-15 against Pete Golding and the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford.
The Tigers record took a beating from the game, but so did its secondary, which suffered from injuries throughout the matchup. Safety Sylvester Smith-Reed, nickel AnQuon "Newboy" Fegans and cornerback Andre Jordan Jr. were all sideline throughout various points of Saturday's game, but according to head coach Alex Golesh, all three players were out on the field practicing on Monday.
Starting corner Jordan exited the game after just three plays and did not return to the game, and Fegans seemed to be dealing with a leg injury before heading out of the game in the second quarter. Smith-Reed left the game after a pass breakup in the second half. At the tail end of the season, in the midst of the brutal play in the SEC, Golesh know that depth is an important factor in finishing strong.
""You have to have a level of depth (for) a gauntlet," Golesh said. "Whether Arkansas is ranked or not, that's a physical football team that's fighting their tails off, and it's going to be the same as it's been the last four weeks. That part won't change.
"Depth matters. You've got to be able to count on every single guy on the roster to provide something."
Also with the potential to return to action this weekend is sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Koger. Golesh said he was close to be able to play against Ole Miss but was ultimately ruled out, and the Tigers hope to have him back against Arkansas.
Although it was a positive injury report, Golesh provided no guarantees that any of the four players will be good to go this weekend. He said later in the week he would have a better idea of who would be ready to play.
The Tigers return home this weekend and host the Arkansas Razorbacks for an 11:45 a.m. kickoff from Jordan-Hare Stadium.
