Recruiting is heating up in the south, and the Auburn football staff is still working to solidify their recruiting class of 2026. With eight commits so far, the most recent hopping on board just last week, the class still needs some work, and a commitment from one of the country's elite quarterbacks could give the Tigers some much needed momentum.
4-star quarterback Landon Duckworth is ranked as the No. 51 overall recruit and the No. 6 quarterback out of the recruiting class of 2026. From Jackson, Alabama, a small town about 45 minutes north of Mobile, Duckworth is ranked as the No. 5 prospect out of the state.
Wednesday night, Duckworth announced that he had narrowed his list of potential schools down to two: Auburn and South Carolina. Though the QB was supposed to take official visits to both Florida State and Ole Miss, he canceled the trips and will be focusing on the Gamecocks and the Tigers.
Duckworth was previously committed to South Carolina, but walked back his pledge last summer. Though the Tigers have made a big impression on the quarterback, he remains close to the South Carolina staff and has even received predictions from On3 recruiting experts Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos to end up as a Gamecock.
However, Wiltfong reported after Duckworth's announcement that he was planning to make a return trip to the Plains after his official visit on May 30. He officially visited South Carolina on June 6.
So, will this weekend's visit be enough to convince the in-state quarterback to remain in the state? Recruiting local kids has been a priority for head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff, and they will definitely pull out all the stops to get Landon Duckworth on board as a Tiger.
