The Auburn football team is nearing the end of spring practices with A-Day set to take place this Saturday. With only two scholarship quarterbacks on campus right now, it has been a productive month of training for Oklahoma transfer Jackson Arnold and freshman Deuce Knight.

A 5-star prospect out of high school, Knight was arguably the crown jewel of the Tigers' recruiting class of 2025. Fans were thrilled to have such a promising quarterback on his way to the Plains even if he wasn't expected to start in the 2025 season.

However, according to Auburn football quarterbacks coach Kent Austin, Knight is already exceeding expectations on the field and through his studies of the offense. He has made himself known as a standout during spring practice, and he can't be counted out of the quarterback race just yet.

“He's probably ahead of where I thought he would be, quite frankly,” said Austin, per Auburn Rivals. “He's smart, he prepares, he's really gifted physically. He can make some throws that a lot of other guys can't make, even at his age right now.”

Knight has worked hard to pick up the Tigers' offense, studying the schemes in the weeks leading up to spring practice. He has also developed a strong friendship with Arnold, and the pair have been able to work together rather than develop a true rivalry while trying to earn the coveted QB1 role.

“I’m just going out every day trying to get better. I’m not thinking about all that stuff,” said Knight. “Just trying to get better each and every day. Just trying to be the best teammate I can.”

Auburn football's spring practice will come to a close this weekend with A-Day. The Tigers will run a 90-minute practice in Jordan-Hare Stadium that is free and open to the public.
