Auburn football transfer portal QB target Maalik Murphy revealed a pleasant conversation he had with Hugh Freeze during his Plains visit. That conversation led to a favorable judgement on Freeze from the Duke signal-caller as he looks for a potential new home.
"Being able to talk to the coach and just have back and forth conversation about ball, about life, him just being an open book, being able to talk to him, being able to talk to all the recruiters, GAs, whoever," Murphy said (h/t On SI). "They're just open arms, you know what I'm saying? It's a good place, good people here. So I'm thankful for the opportunity."
Murphy had a favorable opinion on everything Auburn-related after visiting.
"This has been great," Murphy said. "Checked a lot of boxes for me, being here, being able to meet all the coaches, and be around the facilities, see the place for my first time. I've never been to Auburn before, and I like what I see so far, for sure."
Murphy is one of several QB targets AU has registered interest in. Auburn will likely enter a bidding war with Mississippi State over Oklahoma's Jackson Arnold and could be in competition with Coach Prime and Colorado for Liberty's Kaidon Salter.
If Freeze doesn't land a QB in the portal, he'll have Class of 2025 blue-chip Deuce Knight entering a room that now only includes Walker White. Payton Thorne is out of eligibility, while Hank Brown and Holden Geriner are looking for new homes in the portal as we speak.
