Heading into the 2025 season, the Auburn football team undoubtedly has one of the most talented wide receiver groups in the nation.
The returning Freeze Four— Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, Malcolm Simmons and Bryce Cain— were joined by transfers Eric Singleton and Horatio Fields alongside incoming freshmen Sam Turner and Deric Smith, creating a deep group of pass catchers for quarterback Jackson Arnold to choose from.
After a rocky 2024 season at Oklahoma, there is a lot of pressure riding on Arnold to be successful on the Plains, and he says the wide receivers are making his job a lot easier.
"It's fun," Arnold said, per Auburn Undercover. "I think the biggest issue is choosing who to throw to. They make my job a whole lot easier. I think spring was the easiest spring I've had, just being a point guard and passing the ball around to a bunch of different guys.
"I could throw a little screen route for a couple of yards and they would turn it into 20+ yards. It has made my job a whole lot easier and it has built a whole lot of confidence in myself just being able to throw 50/50 balls and trust they're going to go up and make it."
Since his arrival in January, Arnold has worked hard to build chemistry with the team and show that he plans to be a leader as QB1. He's put in time outside of football with the other players, but says the wide receivers are always looking to put in extra work.
"Those dudes absolutely love to work," he said. "I've got receivers hitting me up at 8 o'clock at night trying to throw. I love that. For me, that shows they care about it and they want to be great. I know Cam, Eric, Malcolm, Horatio, Perry, all of them want to be the best version of themselves and put a great product on the field, which I absolutely love."
