Alex Golesh has made some strides in recruiting since arriving on the Plains at the beginning of December, and it might end up paying off with one of the best quarterbacks in the 2027 class.
Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong and Greg Smith have both made expert predictions that 4-star quarterback Israel Abrams, the No. 3 signal-caller in his class, will commit to Golesh and Auburn.
“I just think talking to Coach Golesh over time, getting to know him and his family I feel like that’s a type of man I want to be coached under,” Abrams said. “He has the same values my dad has so that obviously translates over and that’s someone you want to play for.”
Israel Abrams could be the future at quarterback for Auburn
Out of Montini Catholic in Lombard, Ill., Abrams was expected to be a lock for Iowa State, but with the Cyclones’ head coach Matt Campbell taking the Penn State job, he is looking at other places, including Auburn. His father, Damion, expressed how much the family loves Auburn, while the quarterback acknowledged the time Golesh and his staff are spending getting to know the recruit.
“The coaches they show so much love,” Abrams said. “They’re always reaching out. They’re always there. I probably talk to Coach Hayden Kingston and Coach (Joel) Gordon at least three times a week, both of them. The connection is definitely building and getting better.”
Already a two-time state champion, the 6-4, 180-pound Abrams is the No. 44 overall player in his class, and holds offers from many schools, including Tennessee, Minnesota, Florida State, Ole Miss and reigning national champion Indiana, to name a few.
With Deuce Knight leaving Auburn for Ole Miss following this past season, and the Tigers only signing one quarterback in the 2026 class, Abrams would be a huge win for Golesh as he tries to fill the position for the future.
