Alex Golesh and his coaching staff have gone into the state of Georgia and landed their quarterback for the future, as 3-star Gary Chatman Jr. committed to Auburn on Saturday.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound signal-caller was originally committed to Wake Forest, but decommitted earlier this week, with the Tigers continuing to make a push for his commitment.

“When I went back up there for my second visit, I just loved everything about it,” Chatman told Rivals. “I loved the coaches and the environment… that’s what led to my decision. I knew when I left that visit that I was going to commit to Auburn.”
Alex Golesh continues to fill up 2027 recruiting class
As a junior at Brookwood HS (Snellville, Ga.), Chatman threw for 1,494 yards and 12 touchdowns with four interceptions while rushing for 418 yards and five more scores in 10 games. It was his first year as a starter, and he helped lead his team to the second round of Georgia’s AAAAAA playoffs.
Chatman is considered a dual-threat quarterback who has shown signs of improving at his downfield passing. He has impressive pocket awareness, allowing him to avoid sacks, and he can throw the ball accurately while on the run. His speed is an asset, as he can regularly beat defenders to the edge, especially on RPO plays.
He was sold on Auburn in large part due to Golesh.
“I asked the staff why they came to Auburn… and they all had positive things to say about Coach Golesh,” Chatman said. “When I sat down with him, I knew that’s a guy I’d love to play for. He is smart, he has energy, and he wants to win. I like what I know about Coach Golesh.”
And while he has plenty of time before signing day, Chatman says that the commitment to Auburn is set in stone.
“The coaches, the environment and how close it is to home pushed Auburn to the top for me,” Chatman said. “It was really tough to call Wake Forest, and I appreciate those coaches a lot, but I had to make the best decision for my future.
“With this commitment, I’m shutting it down. I am not visiting anywhere else… I am all Auburn.”
