4-star 2027 Auburn Tigers offensive tackle commit Layton von Brandt made a common mistake many have similarly been tripped up by: calling AU "the University of Auburn" when announcing his future on the Plains.

Amazingly, though, von Brandt did something that many could appreciate. von Brandt owned up to his mistake on social media for all to see, saying, "I know my parents told me on the drive over a this morning it's Auburn University not other way around don't mess that part up ... but I got excited & folded."

If being accountable for a minor and common mistake Auburn recruits make frequently is on the agenda, you have to think that the personality trait shows up on the field and in practice. von Brandt shouting out his parents is just the gravy on top.

Auburn commit Layton von Brandt is a historic recruit

von Brandt is bringing an elite pedigree to the Tigers' trenches as the highest-ranked recruit in the history of Delaware. von Brandt, from Appoquinimink, is ranked even higher than Middletown legend Chris Godwin as a recruit.

You have Tyler Hudanick to thank. Per von Brandt, "[Hudanick] will call twice a week just to get on the phone ... We talk about football and about life. And then I went there for a visit and it felt like a special place, like somewhere you want to be. Auburn's a special place."

von Brandt commended Hudanick for his assistant coaches, Chris Kapilovic and Parker Ball, as well, during a previous visit. Per von Brandt, “The room is really well put together. Different types of personalities, different types of guys that you want to talk to, especially with the addition of Coach Kap. Just him being from Alabama.”

For von Brandt, though, it's about the entire picture beyond just his position group. Per von Brandt, “First the coaches, great coaches, great individuals. Then, second, the facilities. It’s really pro-level. Everything can help me get to the next level. And the campus, I didn’t expect it to be as beautiful as it is.”

Say what you will, but von Brandt has some pretty good PR training as a high school senior-to-be. Luckily, he's got the skills to be a one-man wall on the edge to match.

Alex Golesh is starting to make recruiting gains in 2027 class

By no means does Golesh have the 2027 class where it should be, sitting at No. 22 nationally. But the 2026 season hasn't even started yet, and there's been no real effort from governing bodies yet to curb the constant flipping and transfers in the sport.

Business is still booming. For Golesh to strengthen his 2027 class, he'll need to show proof of concept this fall. He has a leg up by bringing on the key components of his USF Bulls offensive staff, and even the system itself, with Byrum Brown and five receiver transfers making their way over.

von Brandt committed to Auburn because it's the Loveliest Village, and the offensive line staff worked their tails off to land him. Many more recruits will come once wins start piling up.
