Wednesday night, the Auburn Tigers baseball team had to fight hard for its 4-3 win over West Georgia. Although the Tigers performed well on the mound, the bats struggled to see any action throughout most of the game.
The Tigers were down by one heading to their last at-bat in the ninth, and with two outs to go there was hope as Ethin Bingaman hit an RBI single to tie up the game. The game was in the hands of Bub Terrell, who hit the ball into left field and allowed Bingaman to just beat the tag at homeplate and give the Tigers the victory.
"Gabe (Gross) called timeout," Terrell said of his at-bat, per Auburn Undercover. "He told me to slow everything down and just put a ball in play. We talk about pushing a ball forward and not leaving it up to the umpire. We just wanted to put the ball in play."
The Tigers return to action this weekend as they host Nebraska for a three-game series at Plainsman Park, and Butch Thompson told the media that pre-season All-American Chris Rembert is expected to return after being out since opening weekend.
"Rembert will play in some capacity," Thompson said of the sophomore standout. "Is that DH, is that second base, is that only being able to play one game? All of his stuff has been great and he has worked hard to get back, as you would expect. Each and every day this week it has continued to get better after the first four or five days of getting some swelling out. He has been taking batting practice. He has been taking ground balls. He has been ramping up the running with Anthony. I do think you'll see him back in there in some capacity."
The first game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
