Auburn Tigers football coach Hugh Freeze doesn't fall for same trap that put him in hot seat

It has been a bumpy ride for Head Coach Hugh Freeze since he arrived on the Plains two seasons ago. Despite immediately improving Auburn football's recruiting efforts and increasing the talent level on the roster, the team has ended both seasons with losing records and somehow regressed in year two.

There is a lot of pressure on Freeze for improvement in year three, and it appears he may be feeling the heat. Earlier this month, many fans were upset with Freeze for saying he knew the team had to make a bowl game this year, feeling like the head coach was setting the bar pretty low.

When he was asked about what would make the 2025 season a success on Tuesday, Freeze offered a pretty vague answer, stating that the team needed to win.

"I don't get into that," Freeze said when asked to benchmark the Tigers' win total, per The Montgomery Advertiser. "You never know, injuries and the way the ball bounces and all of that. But there should be improvement made of us being able to be better in those critical situations that cost us some games last year.

"Heck, this league's hard, as you know. That's why you don't put a benchmark on yourself. You have no idea what's going to go on at every one of these programs, and even the health of your own team and stuff. So, I don't put benchmarks on it, but we should be in every game."

With back-to-back top 10 recruiting classes, an elite transfer portal haul, and a completely revamped quarterback room, the offseason work has got to show up in the form of on-field results this season or head coach Hugh Freeze's seat is only going to keep getting hotter.

The Tigers return to action against the Baylor Bears on August 29.
