In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Bruce Pearl is a strong candidate for Coach of the Year, and a transfer wide receiver sets a visit to the Plains

Halfway through the 2024-25 season, Auburn basketball has already made history. For the first time ever, the Tigers were the consensus No. 1 in the AP Poll last week, and so far, they have navigated conference play with zero losses. With a Maui Invitational win, multiple wins over ranked teams, and only one loss on the road to Duke, it's been a tremendous season for head coach Bruce Pearl's squad.

According to 247Sports, the team's performance is more than enough to warrant placing Pearl in the running for Coach of the Year.

"No offense in kenpom.com's history has ever eclipsed an adjusted 130 offensive rating. Auburn is sitting at 131.3 with February looming right around the corner. Bruce Pearl, offensive coordinator Mike Burgomaster and this Auburn staff are on the verge of some historic stuff. If Auburn can with this SEC and keep the offense humming at all-time levels, Pearl is the Coach of the Year. "

Transfer wide receiver sets a visit to the Plains

While the current focus for the Auburn football coaching staff is high school recruiting, there is still work to be done in the transfer portal, especially now that the College Football Playoffs have ended.

According to Auburn Undercover (subscription required), former Notre Dame wide receiver Jayden Thomas has scheduled a visit to the Plains.

From Atlanta, Georgia, Thomas was a 4-star wide receiver out of high school and signed with Notre Dame as a member of their recruiting class of 2021. As a true freshman, Thomas played in only three games but rotated into the starting lineup for more than half of the Fighting Irish's matchups as a sophomore.

In his four-year career with Notre Dame, Thomas racked up 64 receptions for 838 yards and seven touchdowns. He also recorded five carries for an additional 37 yards and played a role on special teams.
