In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Bruce Pearl is the winningest coach in Auburn basketball history, and Johni Broome reacts to the win over Texas
With the win over the Texas Longhorns, Bruce Pearl has coached the Tigers to 214 victories during his time on the Plains, officially rising above legendary former coach Joel Eaves. In true Bruce Pearl fashion, the Tigers' head coach was quick to praise the coaches that came before him and to thank Auburn for giving him the opportunity.
"... Joel Eaves? Sonny Smith? Coach Ellis? Bruce Pearl? I'll roll with that crowd all day, every day. All day, every day," said Pearl, per Auburn Undercover. "So this just brings glory to those guys and the great coaches that have been here.
"... I just want to reward Auburn for giving me the opportunity. That's how I look at it. I go to work every day, and I just try to reward Auburn for giving me the chance to be their basketball coach and letting me be a part of this Auburn family. I mean it from the bottom of my heart, so I'm grateful for our coaches and the players."
Johni Broome reacts to the win over Texas
Earning the 214th win for Pearl was not an easy feat for the Tigers, who had to battle against the Longhorns for the full 40 minutes. The Tigers put up a 39-27 lead at halftime, but by the end of the second have the Longhorns were just one possession away from tying the game.
Texas fought hard in the game, but for Johni Broome, the win shows just how good of a team the Tigers have this year.
"You know, it just shows how we are as a team," said Broome, per Auburn Rivals. "That's a good basketball team. They hit a lot of tough shots down the stretch. They had a run in the first half and a bigger one in the second half. But the game got to one possession, and we showed our togetherness and ability to overcome adversity."
Auburn basketball returns to action on Saturday when they face South Carolina on the road at noon.
