In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Hugh Freeze talks about the inconsistencies in execution, and freshman Jamonta Waller is expected to miss the rest of the season
The Auburn football team has not had much success this season, but a large part of that is the fact that the Tigers continue to beat themselves with undisciplined penalties, mistakes, turnovers, and more. Critical mistakes like the failed fourth-and-one against Georgia continue to happen until they snowball into another disappointing loss.
For head coach Hugh Freeze, the problem is clear: the Tigers lack consistency in execution, and it is something that must be fixed.
“We can talk about how young we are and all that, but we’re six games in and it’s our job to make sure our kids are consistent in whatever the execution of the calls are. It just shows up over and over again on tape,” said Freeze, per Auburn Rivals. “We can talk about explosive plays we give up or first down production on offense or defense and all of those, but ultimately I think it comes down to us being able to execute the given calls.
“Sometimes the other teams win because they have good athletes and good coaches also. But when you look at it — and we feel like the failure is because we’re not executing enough calls properly — then we’ve got to correct that somehow.”
Jamonta Waller expected to miss rest of season
Earlier this week, news broke that Auburn football freshman edge Jamonta Waller will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a foot injury during practice. According to Auburn Undercover, Waller will undergo surgery soon and is expected to be cleared and ready to participate in spring practice.
Waller was ranked as the #10 edge in his recruiting class and became a big addition to Auburn's roster when he flipped from the Florida Gators on signing day. The edge has appeared in only one game this season for the Tigers and will be eligible for a medical redshirt this season.
