In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the softball team gets a perfect start to the season. In addition, two former Tigers win Super Bowl rings
It was opening weekend for the Auburn softball team, and with five wins in the books from the Tiger Invitational, their season is off to a perfect start. The Tigers played back-to-back double-headers on Friday and Saturday and finished with just one game on Sunday.
The Tigers kicked off the weekend with a 6-1 win over Southern Illinois before taking down North Carolina with a final score of 8-1. Things got more difficult on Saturday.
In the first matchup of the day against Appalachian State, the game went to nine innings, and the Tigers pulled off a one-point victory for a 10-9 final score. Next, Auburn faced off once again against Southern Illinois and triumphed in a 9-7 win. In the final game of the weekend on Sunday, the Tigers beat North Carolina for a second time, winning 11-1 in five innings after run-ruling the Tar Heels.
Auburn softball returns to action in the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday, February 13.
Two former Tigers win Super Bowl rings
The Eagles won the Super Bowl this weekend in dominant fashion, beating out the Kansas City Chiefs 22-40. Following the game, two former Auburn football players — CJ Uzomah and Jack Driscoll — got to take home their first Super Bowl rings.
Uzomah, a tight end, played at Auburn from 2011-2014, and played a major role on the Tigers' offense in his final two years on the Plains. He signed a one-year deal with the Eagles during the offseason but was cut in preseason camp and joined the practice squad. In December he moved back to the active roster.
Driscoll started at right tackle for the Tigers for two seasons after transferring to the Plains from UMass. He spent 2019 and 2018 with Auburn football.
