On April 10th, Sebastian Williams-Adams announced that he was returning to Auburn for his sophomore season. On Monday, he retracted and entered the transfer portal.

Less than 24 hours later, the forward has committed to SEC rival Vanderbilt. It works that quickly in the transfer portal sometimes.

The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward was supposed to play a critical role for Steven Pearl’s squad next season, especially after seeing some success during the Tigers’ run to the NIT title. In the second-round win over Seattle, Williams-Adams put up 15 points while shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor. In the overtime win over Tulsa to win the championship, he scored 13 points with three blocks, two steals and an assist while playing 36 minutes per game.

On Monday, things changed in Williams-Adams' mind, and it seems that Auburn adding players such as Owen Freeman and Thomas Dowd via the transfer portal might have put some fright into the Houston native about playing time, deciding to leave the Plains after averaging 7.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 27.3 minutes per game this past season.

Freeman (6-foot-10, 240 pounds) and Dowd (6-foot-8, 225 pounds) bring size and, more importantly, experience to Auburn’s frontcourt next season. After spending two successful seasons at Iowa, Freeman transferred to Creighton for the 2025-26 season, where he struggled, averaging just 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, never finding his form after suffering a significant knee injury during the summer of 2025, which required surgery and limited him to 26 games with the Bluejays.

Dowd comes off a massive season in which he averaged 14.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 44.1 percent from the floor for the Troy Trojans. The Dothan, Ala., native came up especially massive in the Trojans’ Sun Belt Tournament title win, scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds, on his way to winning the tournament MVP as well as being named First Team All-Sun Belt.
