Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix's All-Pro blindside tackle, Garett Bolles, wants to let fans know that the ankle injury that kept Nix out of the AFC Championship Game won't keep him out of appearances the team will need him to "rock and roll" for this fall.
During an interview with Heavy Sports, Bolles denied the conspiracy that Nix was injured in the locker room, and not on the field, during a 33-30 win over the Buffalo Bills this past January in the NFL postseason's Divisional Round. Bolles also shared the crucial health update Broncos fans badly needed.
"...his body heals like a champion. So I’m really looking forward to seeing what he’s doing. He’s healthy. He’ll be ready to rock and roll when we need him to rock and roll. And I’m just really happy (for) how far we got," Bolles said.
“Obviously, it was a devastating blow for us. But I found out right when the whole world found out, to be honest. It did not happen in the locker room. It literally happened on the field. So I’ll nip that in the bud. Like I said, man, it was a devastating time for all of us.”
All signs point to Nix being available for Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football this September. His ankle injury, which head coach Sean Payton seemed to think was predisposed because of the one that ended his season with the Auburn Tigers in November 2021 against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, doesn't appear to be the road block some thought it'd be heading into the season.
Bo Nix's injury update may have had something to do with Aaron Rodgers' delayed signing with Steelers
Back on April Fool's Day, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio revealed that Denver had interest in Aaron Rodgers. It was not an April Fool's Joke, even though it seemed like it. As Florio explained at the time, though, Nix's injury may be able to open the door for a short-term fill-in. With Rodgers facing the end of his career, and Payton wanting to go all-in to win another Super Bowl, the idea was logical.
Being that Rodgers just put pen to paper with the Pittsburgh Steelers this past week, in late May, perhaps the Broncos actually did have a chance to sign the four-time NFL MVP.
Luckily, everything that has happened points to good health for Nix. Bolles' update is the most positive yet. You'd think that he would know, as one of Nix's closest confidants on the team, due to his role alone.
The bonus is that Nix's primary backup, fellow ex-Auburn QB1, Jarrett Stidham, is also back because of the lack of a Rodgers signing, just ahead of Texas Longhorns legend Sam Ehlinger on Denver's depth chart. After failing to get the job done against the New England Patriots in the AFC title game, it felt like Stidham was the most vulnerable to be moved in the room. Instead, AU will continue to have two representatives from the pre-COVID-19 glory years of the program in the Broncos' QB room.
