AL.com's Kevin Scarbinsky believes Bryan Harsin can no longer be seen as the worst hire in the history of the state of Alabama. Ex-Auburn AD Allen Greene is absolved. But UAB's Mark Ingram is not, since Scarbisky sees his hiring of Trent Dilfer as the new worst hire the Yellowhammer State has ever laid witness to.
"Allen Greene hiring Bryan Harsin at Auburn is off the hook when it comes to the worst football decision by an AD in state history," Scarbinsky prefaced before saying, "That distinction now belongs to Mark Ingram, whose sheer incompetence led to Trent Dilfer.
"When Dilfer goes, Ingram should go with him."
UAB was embarrassed by Army in a 44-10 blowout in West Point, New York. The Black Knights did move to 6-0 with the win, but you'd think Dilfer would be able to recruit a talented enough defensive core with all the talent at his disposal in the Birmingham metro to compete.
Nope. Dilfer isn't the cult of personality capable of bringing in talent around him. Top recruits aren't falling for his Super Bowl ring. The Blazers' recruiting is moving in the opposite direction.
Nothing about Dilfer is working. They've never had a winning record at any point besides one week into each season after playing an HBCU at home.
Bryan Harsin at least had a 6-2 record at Auburn in 2021
Many Tiger fans don't like to acknowledge it, but Harsin had a top-15 team in 2021 that was 6-2 with wins over LSU in Death Valley and Ole Miss at home.
It wasn't all bad on the Plains during the 2021 season. Harsin did nothing that offseason after throwing in the white flag his first recruiting cycle because he didn't agree with the COVID-19-related recruiting protocols, but it wasn't all bad on the field.
And it certainly never came close to as bad as it is now with Dilfer at UAB.
