Byrum Brown's arrival from the USF Bulls has transformed the perception the Auburn Tigers have from a national viewpoint. While the Auburn family bought in for half of the Bryan Harsin tenure before checking out in 2022, and was strung along by Hugh Freeze all three years he was on the Plains in hopes that the team was "close," Alex Golesh has brought in a proven entity from Tampa. Not just Brown, but the offensive system under Joel Gordon, plus the "Golesh Five" of Keshaun Singleton, Chas Nimrod, Christian Neptune, Jeremiah Koger, and Kory Pettigrew.
That has ESPN's Billy Tucker using the word "contender" to describe Auburn's potential goals for the 2026 season. Per Tucker, "Brown is set to immediately elevate Auburn's offense to new heights. He will have built-in chemistry with his receivers and invaluable experience in the offensive system ... We project to see progression as a passer and a runner, where he developed physically to add more size and strength to break tackles. This blend of leadership, rare dual-threat talent, and deep scheme familiarity makes Brown essential for transforming Auburn into a consistent, high-powered offense and a contender in 2026."

Curt Cignetti's act translated well from the James Madison Dukes to the Indiana Hoosiers. Golesh is coming from a higher league than the Sun Belt, an extremely competitive 2025 American Conference, and is landing at a school in a conference with practically no overlord powers besides the Georgia Bulldogs.
Maybe upsetting UGA for the first time in two decades Between the Hedges is a tough ask, but an Iron Bowl upset in Tuscaloosa is squarely on the Tigers' radar this coming season. Very few elite SEC teams are viewing Auburn as the kind of auto-loss it was considered for the past several years.
The Tigers may be on the verge of restoring the feeling at Jordan-Hare Stadium and abroad. Brown and Golesh are the main reasons there's belief in this downtrodden program ahead of the 2026 season.
